Quick guide
A subtitle file you can use anywhere
An SRT file keeps the subtitles apart from the video, so viewers can turn them on or off and the video itself is not changed. Upload a video and the speech is written out as timed lines, ready to save as SRT.
Every line can be corrected before you download. Fix a name or a word that came out wrong, and your wording goes into the SRT, the VTT and every other download.
- Timed lines from the speech, not one block of text.
- SRT, VTT, TXT and Word downloads.
- Free, with no account.
Common questions
What is an SRT file?
A plain text file of numbered subtitle lines, each with the time it starts and ends. YouTube, Vimeo, course platforms and most video editors can read it.
Where do I use it?
On YouTube, open the video in YouTube Studio, choose Subtitles, then upload the file. Video editors usually import it as captions or subtitles.
Can I get VTT as well?
Yes. VTT is the same lines in the format web players use. TXT and Word are there too.
What can I upload?
MP4, MOV and WebM, up to 4 GB and up to 15 minutes. Audio files work too.
