Quick guide
How to add captions that stay easy to read
The speech in your video is transcribed, cut into short lines, and burned into the picture. Burned in means the words are part of the video file itself. There is no separate subtitle file to upload alongside it, and nothing to lose when the video is reposted or sent on.
Captions are read in glances rather than sentences, which is why line length matters more than font choice. Two short lines are easier to take in than one long one, and an outline or a solid box behind the text is what keeps it readable when the picture behind it is busy or keeps changing.
You can change the words, the font, the colours, the outline, the highlight and the height on screen, and see every one of those choices in a real preview cut from your own video before you take the full thing.
- Preview the real captioned video first.
- Move captions away from faces and app buttons.

Common questions
Can I edit the caption words?
Yes. Open Edit captions under your preview, fix any word that came out wrong, and make the preview again.
Will the captions stay on the video?
Yes. The captions are burned into the video, so they stay visible when you post or share it.
What kind of video works best?
A video with clear speech and low background noise gives the best caption result.
